BCS Foundation Certificate in Data Protection

If you’re ready for a career change or a new job, then this course could be the perfect addition to your CV.  WhyBecause the management and processing of data is incorporated into our every working day regardless of role, position or sector. Being able to demonstrate that you hold a recognised qualification in data protection could be what sets you apart from other candidates.

One of our recent course attendees said, “I had great feedback on my CV at interview and genuinely believe that having completed training in data protection was one of the factors that helped me to secure the new role.

What will I learn?

The foundation level course is a great option for anyone looking to secure General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) training and be better placed to assist their employer with compliance.  There are no pre-requisites to joining the course and upon completion you will have gained the following:

  • An understanding of the key legislative changes that the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) bring to data protection
  • An understanding of the new rights that are available to data subjects and the implications of those rights with the GDPR and DPA
  • Insight into both the individual and organisational responsibilities under the GDPR and the DPA which includes the requirement for effective record keeping
  • The obligations faced by data controllers and data processors as a result of the GDPR coming into force and the DPA having being enacted
  • Skills and understanding to support your organisation in processing customer data in compliance with the GDPR and the DPA.

What are my learning options

Attended live online

The course is delivered live online by Liz Taylor over the course of three full days, usually from 09:30 to 16:30.   We like to keep our group size small, with a maximum of eight attendees.  This allows for a more interactive session and we use breakout rooms so candidates have time to collaborate and discuss content.  We get great feedback on our style and method of delivery with one attendee stating that they were: “successfully able to access and contribute to the class [and] enjoyed the use of breakout room as this allowed me to engage on both a 1:1 level and as part of a group”.

Candidates also get hardcopy printed course materials sent to them before the course – these prove useful for both exam revision and refresher training down the line.  The materials are popular with candidates, being described as, “brilliant, very detailed and followed the course structure”.  You will also have access to digital materials via our client portal.

We usually run this course two to three times per year, depending on demand. For 2024, the course is currently scheduled to run 16-18 April and 26-28 November.  Find out more and book here

Online on Demand

Our online and on demand version is available 24/7 – perfect for fitting around any other responsibilities.   Access 20 hours of pre-recorded content, plus a hard copy of the course handbook.  All learners have access to support throughout their learning and we encourage all questions.

By purchasing the online and on demand format you will benefit from a 45% saving compared to the cost of the delivered – who doesn’t love a discount? We really want learning to be accessible and cost effective, which was the motivation behind our on demand e-learning packages.

We can assure you we don’t scrimp on quality either, as all of our e-learning content goes through an eight-stage quality assurance check, and – as with the attended live course – all content is updated in line with each BCS syllabus refresh.
