Course Description

This course is designed for candidates with some existing data protection responsibilities wishing to gain a broader understanding of current laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Upon course completion candidates will gain an understanding of the key changes and the associated implications the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 introduced. Furthermore, candidates will gain an understanding of the individual and organisational responsibilities, as well as the right afforded to the data subject. Candidates will be better placed to assist their organisation with compliance and demonstrate an understanding of the designation of a data protection officer.

Supporting materials that accompany this course are available in digital and hard copy formats and we recommend you order a set of hard copy materials. There is no additional cost for this. Please note that if you order digital only, we will still require an address for your course handbook which is currently only available in hard copy.

Please note the BCS refresh the syllabus every 6 months. Online on demand content will be updated to reflect the current syllabus and you will also be provided with an updated copy of digital materials where required.  You will not receive another set of hard copy materials.  You should check you have covered the current syllabus prior to sitting your assessment.  The current syllabus is available from https://www.bcs.org/qualifications-and-certifications/certifications-for-professionals/information-security-and-data-protection-certifications/bcs-practitioner-certificate-in-data-protection/.

You will be eligible to sign up for a monthly subscription to our learning management to continue to access the recorded course materials which you must do within 18 months of purchasing your online on demand package. Please see our booking terms and conditions, and contact us for current pricing.

Pay In Instalments

This is exactly the same course as the pay in full option, with the same materials, the same support and the same BCS assessment included. The only difference is how you pay. Instead of paying the full price up front, you spread the cost over equal monthly instalments. You pay the first instalment when you place your order and we invoice you for the rest month by month, each with a payment link. Course materials are released in stages as each payment is made, so you can start straight away and keep moving through the course as you pay. The payment schedule and the materials released at each stage are set out in the terms below.

Course Fee

We include a £50+VAT admin fee if you choose to pay for this course in instalments. If you’d rather pay in full, you can purchase the E-Learning BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection course here.

Pay In Instalments Terms

1. What you are buying

The instalment option gives you the full BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection (online, on demand). The course content, hard copy materials, two 1-2-1 sessions, client hub access, BCS registration and BCS assessment fee are the same as the pay in full option. The only difference is that payment is spread over four months and materials are released in stages.

2. Payment schedule

The total price is £1,500+VAT, payable in four equal instalments of £375.

  • Instalment 1 is paid at the point you order the course.
  • Instalments 2, 3 and 4 are payable monthly thereafter.

All invoices will be issued on receipt of the order, although they will be due monthly after the order was placed. Each invoice will be due on the date shown on the invoice.

3. What is released at each stage

On payment of instalment 1: we set up your BCS Practitioner course on our learning management system with the introduction, plus modules 1 to 3, and give you access to our client hub.

On payment of instalment 2: we issue your hard copy materials, provide access to module 4, and make the first of your two 1-2-1 sessions available. You can hold this session back if you would prefer to use it for revision later.

On payment of instalment 3: we provide access to modules 5 to 8.

On payment of instalment 4: we provide access to modules 9 to 11, which completes the course materials, plus your second 1-2-1 session. We also register you with the BCS for your assessment and pay your assessment fee.

4. Access period

You have access to the course materials for one year from the date you place your order. This period is not extended by the instalment schedule, so we recommend keeping payments on track to give yourself the full year of study time.

5. If a payment is missed

If an instalment is not paid, no further course materials will be released until payments have recommenced. You will not lose access to anything you have already paid for although please note that instalment payments give you access for the year pro rata, ie for each payment you make, you’ll be given access to the LMS and client portal for 3 months. Once the outstanding payment is made, the next stage of materials will be released as normal.  If your payment is not received 2 months after it becomes due, your accounts will be suspended. If the payment is not received for a month after they’ve been suspended, your account will be deleted, and you will need to order a new package to continue.

6. BCS registration and assessment

Registration with the BCS and payment of your assessment fee take place after the fourth and final instalment has been paid. You will not be able to sit the BCS assessment until all four instalments have been received.

7. General

The instalment option is only available through this page. If you order the course at the full price, the instalment terms do not apply.

Tkm & Associates proudly supports palliative care hospices

Throughout 2025, Tkm & Associates will be supporting the palliative care sector as our charity partners.

For every live attended course booking (public and in-house), practitioner and foundation online on-demand courses we receive, Tkm & Associates will credit 10% of the booking value into a pool to support information governance training for practitioners in the palliative care sectors. This will allow data protection officers, Caldicott Guardians, and records managers working in hospices and other parts of third-sector palliative care services to choose and book a range of our live and on-demand training at either heavily subsidised or no cost, depending on course choice.

When you choose Tkm & Associates as your information governance training partner, you are helping a key and under-resourced care sector.
